Family Friendly Travel Awards

Recent articles published by C&E News, Nature and Science, highlight distinct challenges associated with raising a family and attending conferences. Specifically, these articles note that a lack of child care (particularly for infants and toddlers) often impedes the ability of women scientists to attend career-boosting conferences. In a response to this apparent need, Iota Sigma Pi offers a travel award (up to $500) designed to alleviate the financial stress associated with bringing children or a childcare provider to professional conferences. Awards are intended to benefit members of Iota Sigma Pi by enabling awardees to present their science to a national audience while balancing the responsibilities of being a working parent.

Applications for the Iota Sigma Pi Family Friendly Travel Award will be reviewed three times annually. The deadline for submissions is based on conference date.

  • November 1st (previous year) for travel between January – April

  • March 1st for travel between May – August

  • July 1st for travel between September – December

Student & Professional Travel Grants

Travel Grants (up to $400, as a refund) are awarded to enable M@Ls to travel to present (poster or oral) at national or regional scientific conferences. Applications will be reviewed three times annually. The deadline for submissions is based on conference date.

  • November 1st (previous year) for travel between January – April

  • March 1st for travel between May – August

  • July 1st for travel between September – December

Service Mini-Grants

Mini-grants (up to $250, as a refund) are available to support M@L-initiated service or outreach activities. To apply (on a rolling basis) email a one-page letter to the M@L Coordinator detailing how the grant will be used and how the grant applicant will explicitly promote Iota Sigma Pi as a part of the proposed activity.
